You could also quit at a drop of a hat. The power dynamic is often dependent on
the employee's skill set, and what you believe the power dynamic to be in your mind. If you are great at your job and your employer knows it, you have leverage.
You seem to view the dynamic as adversarial. That's only true when bad employers and bad employees are involved. A good employer avoids hiring bad employees and doesn't create an adversarial culture.
