There is a place for both IMO. Rec sports are for kids who want to compete, get great exercise, and do it with their
friends. Club sports are competitive at a higher level with better coaching, players, and with different experiences ... at a higher cost.

Too many parents get conned into thinking that putting their kids into club sports will lead to college scholarships. They very well could but they'd be far better off just putting the money into a college savings fund instead if that's their goal since most college sports only offer partial scholarships if you even get one (and if their child even wants to play in college).
