Some parents with really athletic kids simply can't afford comp sports
The best player in our city in all of 10u baseball this year played on a regular team, not a comp team, because his parents can't afford the cost of comp baseball. In my experience, the average comp player would be an above average player on a regular team. If Utah actually followed the Little League model instead of the Western Baseball model and placed kids according to talent level instead of age groups, the average Majors LL team would be able to compete with many of the local 12u comp teams.
