This. Depending on how crappy your benefits plan is, 100k looks more like 60k
after taxes/medical plan. And after the cost of living (sofi puts it at 42k) and tithing (6-10k depending on how you measure your "income"), it looks more like 10k. You can make ends meet comfortably, but 10k doesn't feel like "getting ahead" because that amount pretty much needs to be put into a retirement plan to stay on par with what is recommended.
