the resume could easily be interpreted as reflecting a separate campus location of the same university. Like, it’s BYU, just an extension campus.

A reader unfamiliar with the schools really isn’t going to think super hard about it and they’re going to come away with the impression that this applicant went to BYU. Which is exactly what the applicant is going for here.
