Should Martin Luther have left the Catholic Church alone? No. Former members are
often most knowledgeable and best equipped to deal with the parts of an organization they see as unhealthy or untrue.

And they are best at articulating the reasons why they think so because they know the teachings more intimately than an outsider who's never been inside, would know.

Those Catholics who disagreed with Luther hopefully just explained why they think he is wrong and offered their best apologetics instead of trying to shame him into silence.

All ideas, religious and otherwise should have to defend their legitimacy in the marketplace of ideas instead of seeking for special isolated shelter away from those who disagree with them.

If a person leaves the Democratic party for the Republican party, it shouldn't be expected that they be silent about the reasons why they left the Democratic party. (And politics has a lot in common with religion, both of which influence culture as a whole.) Don't say, oh, they can leave the Democratic party but they can't leave the party alone.

Even more so with religion. Leaving a job is nothing like leaving a religion. Religion touches on every aspect of society and controls in many even almost undetectable ways a person's life. It influences legislation, etc. Your job doesn't.

If a person thinks a certain Doctrine is healthy or unhealthy for them or their families or society in general, they should speak on it, either way. This never-ending and continuously ongoing conversation which can be testy at times, has accomplished way more good than not.

Some would say a religion's greatest accomplishment wasn't getting some people to belive in it, but was getting people to believe their unfalsifiable claims are the only things out of all topics, ideas, etc, under the sun you aren't allowed to ridicule.

So many of the great changes made in the church over the past centuries, have been sparked by those who were told in their day to stand down, obey or get out. Thankfully they kept airing their grievances. Causing change from the bottom up. Resulting in things finally being re-thought about and approved at the top. Many examples available.

And if one doesn't want to hear it, nothing is forcing them to listen to, watch, or read it. Allow them the space to express why they think it is wrong or unhealthy and either do or don't listen to it.

I think it's great for a person to give an accounting for why they believe in something and great for a person to give an accounting for why they no longer believe in a thing or think it a healthy thing.
