Lived in rural Japan for nearly 2-2 1/2 years (depending on how you classify
Hiroshima). People are kind and respectful. You’ll rarely see ex-pats (at least I rarely saw ex-pats). Many people can speak some English.
As long as you like simple life and a house that allows minimal privacy… I enjoyed it, but I’m not going back. I also enjoyed a year in very non-rural Tokyo, but preferred my 2 years in NYC. I prefer Utah and the mountains and red rock, so that’s where am and plan to stay.
