BYU's defensive weakness is that when the opposing offense plays mistake free,
BYU's defense doesn't do much about it.
Bronco and Tuiaki both prioritized not giving up the big play, but that's where the similarities end. Bronco likes to disguise what his defense is doing to confuse opposing offenses, while Tuiaki plays things straight up. The former provides chances to force high functioning offenses into mistakes, while the the latter just lives off the hope that eventually a drive-killing mistake will come.
Bronco's defenses also were aggressive. They liked to blitz, and prioritized not consistently giving up short yardage plays. Consequently they excelled against the run. Tuiaki's defense are more read and react, doubling down on not giving up the big play at any cost, which leads to the linebackers often playing on their heels.
