I would disagree that every person that leaves the church (or any church) is a searcher of truth, some are but many are not. I don't know your background or your situation, so it is hard for me to opine.
The discussion is on those who have left the church and are vocal and anti-LDS. If they want to discuss their views and beliefs that is great, but when they cross the line trying to make their views known that is where it gets odd. It is more prevalent in Utah for sure. We are discussing those that leave that all of the sudden go out of their way to make it known they left the church and not looking to discuss doctrine or differing views (which is fine). It is those who drink too much, now get tattoos all over (not judging, but they want it known), swearing, all over social media, saying digs at the church, saying inappropriate things in front of kids, going over the top with morality.
That is what I am discussing and I have seen this first hand. I love those who have left, several were and are my best friends, they went through a phase making it known (both RM's and BYU grads), constant digs or pics drinking etc. They can do what they want and I love them. I respect their views and hope they respect mine.
They have NEVER wanted to discuss doctrine or seek truth. They left and are very negative on the church, members, leaders etc. If they want to sit and express their views and what they believe they know I am all ears, they don't want this.
I have to admit I have yet to meet anyone that is attempting to be like Martin Luther, they have left for other reasons. I get it many don't believe, which is their right. I love them regardless. Their issues have primarily come from family, not friends.
There 1000000% are issues with members judging and acting strange around those who leave, I never disputed that. It is not a one way street. My sole point is it is much more apparent and vocal in Utah vs other places.
