Frankly, I have a ton of respect for people who look at the church, say “you know what, that’s just not for me” for whatever reason, but keep their head about it.

I’m a bit divided and perplexed by the folks who swing completely the other way – – I sort of get it and yet I completely do not. The people who make hating on the church their entire identity may be among the very most annoying people on the planet

You see people develop a superiority complex of sorts that they either barely conceal or outright flaunt after leaving the latter-day fold. There are a myriad of other types I won’t attempt to capture or describe.

And then you have folks that quietly go on with their lives with no discernible malice or need to toss out everything affiliated with their former church. In fact, they may hang on to the things they liked, such as fandom for BYU sports and a fondness for their college experience. Some do so even as they take up hobbies or lifestyles that aren’t always latter-day saint compatible.

I tend to really like and respect those people. While I’m not exactly an ex anything, I’m trying to be like those people. Good to have y’all around.
