I grew up in Utah, but I’ve lived in other states for over 25 years.

Your assessment is spot-on. When you live amongst it, you don’t see the situation quite as clearly. The over-compensating by non-members and former members is nauseating. Watching Ute fans interact online with other fan bases is a prime place to spot this behavior.
