I had some knee issue that happened to show up right before I was scheduled to try out for basketball which slowed me down considerably and made me not be able to jump. I’m not saying I was a shoe in to make the team, but all the other guys that I had been on the AAU and All-Star teams up to that point made the team and I was literally the only one that didn’t. ( this was back in the day when All-Star teams and AAU teams actually meant something 😂) It was hard as I had prepared my whole life for that sort of Accomplishment, the same for baseball. At the time it was really hard, and I struggled with self-worth, but found some other activities to participate in which ultimately led to me to enjoy new things, and when it all came down to it, those were the reasons that I found my wife where and when I did. Hindsight is always 2020 but there’s always good that can be found in disappointment. Just help him keep his head up and try again when he’s more healthy, but never ever give up. Even if you have to try something new, it may open some new doors down the road!
