Apparently, Utah medical school embraces the announcement. Also, BYU focusing on international medical issues will likely leave the 2 schools not competing much with each other in areas of focus. It would seem that many domestic LDS medical aspirants would avoid a school focused on international medical issues, because they want to practice medicine near their homes in the USA. U of U is middling in many areas, but Huntsman and other areas Utah focusses on are top notch. It will take many, many years to acquire top faculty, gain a reputation, build a network for residents to move into... BYU will hopefully have a great school in the future, but not quickly and not in areas Utah medical focusses on. BYU will likely never exceed Utah in cancer specific areas.
