conf champs, runners up for top 4 conf, and at large. It brings no more byes that upset people with ASU and Boise and no potential hand-wringing trying to figure out if the MWC champ is more deserving than the AAC champ. That puts all playoff spots available for any team at the beginning of the year instead of letting a committee decide something that can be decided on the field.

I still prefer 8 though. It makes getting to the playoffs very special and makes the rivalry week games much more meaningful. I'm fine if that means SMU and Tenn get left out this year.
