Two things. people need lead time to arrange travel
Having games the next week makes that difficult. If hosted in higher seeds home field, more likely to get people there. Have first round played 2 weeks after ccg.

2nd, bowls are money makers for the conferences. Taking the cfb out of the bowls, has

what effect(s)? - lower interest in other bowls? less revenue for the conferences? less chance for good teams to celebrate a good year by going to a bowl?
Will the gate from home games be shared with all cfb? who gets that revenue?


I think much of what you say has a lot of merit.
Move it to 16 teams no byes. Conference champs get to host first round
