RE: All those who wanted ASU to win thinking it would help Big12 are kidding
I have read several posts on CB saying they just couldn’t cheer for ASU to win and the TCU win over Michigan didn’t help the conference. Let me explain why I think that mindset is wrong. Let me first say that I wish BYU was playing instead of ASU. BYU deserved to be in the playoffs with their strength of schedule this year. With that being said, this is why I believe we need to change our mindset to cheer for our conference teams when they make it into the playoffs.

Recall that the way the college football power decided to distribute $ was based off past seasons and how many times and teams made it into the 4 team college championship. The about of times and teams a conference got into the playoffs would reflect their percentage of $. That is why the SEC and the B10 received around 30% each. The ACC received 17% and the B12 received 15%. The remaining $ went to the Group of 5 and ND. It’s interesting to remember that Oklahoma and Texas were down during this time period and kind of ironic that the two teams that helped the B12 were Cincinnati and TCU.

Last year when the conferences agreed to the 12 team playoff and agreed to $ distribution, Brett Yormark pushed hard for a look in clause-I believe in 2026 or 2027. It was the only negotiation power the B-12 really had against the B10, SEC and probably in some way ESPN and FOX Sports who have billions tied up with those two conferences.

So just remember this, we need to hope BYU makes the 12 team playoff every year. But if they don’t, we need the B12 to be at minimum a two team playoff league. If not, we might end up with even less than 15% of playoff revenue in a few years and as we are all learning, it’s all about the money. Go Cougs!🤙
