I've seen job listings come up for a nearby location for my job. I make more at my company (health insurance) than what Amazon is offering for my same position.

I had a sibling working for Amazon for several years (which is how I know quite a bit about the innerworkings there, plus I read a Jeff Bezos biography which was pretty fascinating) and he ended up leaving for one of the other big tech companies and got a huge raise. Out of the big tech companies, Amazon is at the lower end in terms of comp, at least for their engineer / IT positions. I'm sure they pay a lot more than certain industries though.
