with those that encourage counseling. 4 out of my 5 have been through some sort of counseling and it does appear to help. I'd also encourage focusing on long term positive outcomes (being alive, being happy) than short term (getting good grades, etc.) I've seen my kids go through rough spots where they just needed loved and encouraged and short term pressures alleviated. Sometimes they (and we) have had to accept short term setbacks like dropping out of college or not going on a mission to focus on long term outcomes. I'm happy to say at this point my kids are all in better places than when they were at the "bottom" but it's more that they are better able to manage their challenges now rather than those challenges being gone. She sounds like a great kid and you are good parents and you all can get through this.
