Likely, the other girls went to the coach and asked her to reconsider or the coach had second thoughts like you said.
If the coach is bringing this up for any other reason than that she wants to invite her to rejoin the team, then the coach is dumb and is only picking at a scab. I hope your daughter gets the outcome that she hopes for.
