Part of the reason he looks like a guy in a suit from the 50's is because the director wanted to honor the original
Godzilla. They probably had him move like he did because he's an enormous beast that has to fight with gravity to move on land.
But 2% of the critics and 2% of the audience didn't like it. So, you're not totally alone.
