developed, you didn't have the stupid 2 dimensional characters that the Legendary ones have. Even though those films still have their place, IMO.
It was a great story of redemption and dealing with PTSD. People learning forgiveness and to value human life more.
The makeshift families were maybe my favorite part. These people who had their real families torn from them coming together and building new family experiences in an awful/unthinkable situation.
With the caveat that I'm a big monster movie fan, after seeing the trailer, I went into this with soaring expectations. I figured there was zero chance it had to live up to them. The movie somehow surpassed them and I left the theater with my jaw hanging open. And I've talked to many that aren't monster movie/Godzilla fans that were still blown away with the movie.
So, I can buy maybe it was overhyped for some but there is definitely enough evidence that they're the exception.
My BIL described it as being pretty good. Then I found out he watched it on his phone while working out. This after I urged him to watch it on the biggest screen possible.
