Anyone else think Godzilla minus one was way overrated? (Spoilers)
I am not really a big fan of monster destruction movies in general. But I had heard so many good things about this movie that I was really excited to see it. I tried to see it in theaters but it left too soon.

So I watched it last night. And it was a cute silly little Godzilla movie but nothing great.

I actually liked the story quite a bit early on of them trying to survive after WWII. But in general it was predictable (it was so obvious the girl wasn't dead, that he'd eject, etc) and campy and the special effects were a distraction the whole movie.

They blue screen almost every scene and it was obvious. The close up boat scenes are obviously on a stage. The animated water would be swishing all around and the camera on the boat and actors aren't moving or swaying at all. When shooting the gun to blow up the mines - the gun looks so fake.

There were some really cool shots here and there and enjoyable scenes and a fun set up but I can't believe it won the Oscar for best special effects.

Considering the budget they had was tiny, the special effects were very good. But compared to most movies with bigger budgets, they were straight bad.

Gareth's Edward's Godzilla obviously had a much bigger budget but was a far better movie IMO and I didn't even love it.

Anyone else see this and wonder where all the praise is coming from?
