Also NASA has never promised to land a man on Mars within the next 3, 5, 10, or X number of years, so they've never failed at it.
I do like the advances in reusability that SpaceX has achieved, but they would be a bankrupt footnote in tech history without the legacy (and free cash) of NASA.
