success. He represents the university and its ideals well and appears to have good integrity--just what you would want in an administrator at BYU-or of a bishop or mission president.
That doesn't mean shut-up and turn a blind eye to his flaws. At age 48, Kalani is who he is. His teams have had 3 melt-downs in 3 different seasons and underperformed. He benefitted greatly from a cupcake COVID schedule, but he was smart enough to leverage that season, and I loved the winning and positive press. Unfortunately, KS has not moved the needle overall on recruiting, despite 9 years to do so (so the 2 year mission excuse does not hold water at this point). His programs are fairly undisciplined and, being such a nice guy, Sitake waits too long to jettison underperformers.
Sitake is a bit lucky that B12 admission came along: he gets a 2 year pass from Holmoe on being fired. (Hey you got to give the guy (and all BYU coaches) a couple of years to adapt to the increased P4 competition. Of course, that ignores the fact BYU had 2 years' notice to get ready for the B12. Funny, how Pope and Diljeet were ready for the increased competition.) Again, an average college football head coach, whom we all like.
