HCs have too many responsibilities (e.g. overseeing the whole program including S&C, recruiting, offensive staff, defensive staff, special teams, boosters, media et. al.) to actually do the hands-on coaching or game planning. Sure, they oversee it all, but they are very reliant on their assistant coaches and should be.
It makes me wonder why anyone would want to pull Coach Hill from running a topflight defense for us to have him do all of this other crap instead. If it's a salary issue, pay the assistants what they're worth to keep them then.
