The defense playing to keep everything in front of the sticks probably affects
This quite a bit. That is why it is important to be in 3rd and short. Byus biggest problem is they can't run so end up with lots of 3rd and longs. Not having a mobile qb who can run for a first down also hurts
So yes byu has problems with 3rd downs but they are more tied to lack of run game than 3rd down play calls.
