Finished this morning. He didn’t want a single person to know it was going down so I kept it quiet. We did 70 miles yesterday riding the antelope island causeway back and forth 5 times and then the frontage road between the airport and saltair this morning to finish it off. I won a $100 side bet on the way back that we wouldn’t be done when we got back to the car. He had to circle around the Maverick there to finish it off. 🙂
Had some rain and wind this morning. The last 10 miles were into a headwind and pretty miserable. Yesterday was pretty ideal conditions with minimal wind. It was just the two of us yesterday so I pulled him for all 70 miles. Today coach was able to come so luckily we had two bodies in front of him for the headwind sections. He had some issues here and there but powered through them. The funniest was when he got in my car last night his legs went absolutely nuts. Muscle spasms everywhere. He thought he was dying. I just smiled and told him "welcome to the club. It's normal and we all have it happen to us." Luckily he scheduled a long massage last night and two bags of IV. Worked out since he was fine this morning, although he didn't sleep much and couldn't eat. 30 miles wasn't stopping him.
It’s been a long 5 1/2 months. It’ll be nice to not have to wake up at 5am three days a week.
Proud of him. He’s still on his journey. He’s down 105 lbs and still has 50+ lbs to go. He hates riding a bike so he’ll focus on weightlifting from here on out.
Now is the big test where his motivation is getting and staying healthy for himself and his son.
Hope you all enjoyed this journey.
