I asked them why he chose BYU over Oregon and Texas, among many others.
These parents sat in on the recruiting pitches at all these places and were blown away with Oregon and Texas' pitches. They said Texas and Sark's whole pitch was NFL, NIL, prestige, and money. They had a presentation talking about how he would be a sure NFL player and be set for life and they nice car he would be driving from day one and all the benefits, gifts, money, etc., he would get, on top of being a sure NFL pick. Both parents said they themselves were almost persuaded when they heard these pitches. They said Sark in person is incredible with recruits and SO charismatic and likeable. And they said Oregon was just as persuasive.
So what won BYU over? The atmosphere. They said the other places were ALL about money, glamour, fame and nice things. BYU had much more depth to its pitch and Kalani's charisma and excitement sealed the deal. Of note, this is a great kid with desires to serve a mission. So contrasting BYU's culture with other's was huge. But they also said that for kids who don't want a mission and are solely focused on NFL, it will be next to impossible to compete with top program pitches. These kids truly can be celebrities from day one.
