freaking martyr. Luke was one of the most powerful Jedi ever seen. And all we get is a force projection image after all these years when he was supposedly ignoring the force? SO LAME

When Rey shows up, Luke should have been, "seen you coming have I". and Rey is like huh? And Luke says "Talking to Yoda too much I have. " And then he goes off to help her fight.

at the end, when al those walker are ready to attack, Luke shows up at the last second in a state of intense mediation. Gathering all his powers. His body begins to arc very faint blue force lightning. Then he should have actually stood in front of those giant gates in front of all those imperial walkers alone. When they fired on him, he force holds all their lasers in front of them as if it were nothing and sent all of that lazer fire back at the imperial walkers. They'd take some damage, but are all still operational. Kylo would be stunned and amazed at the same time.

Then Luke, the whole time staring at Kylo Ren's walker, begins to force crush walker legs one at a time and watching them collapse in giant explosions. Some walkers trying firing, some try running, Luke downs them all. One walker he destroys by force throwing his lightsaber 5 times in quick succession, destroying it. When the giant battering ram shows up, Luke does something with the sun and the ground that causes the giant laser light to be deflected into space accidentally clipping a nearby star destroyer that immediately begins to list and you can tell it won't last much longer.

You can't hurt me. Luke says.

Even after all that display, arrogant Kylo Wren still thinks he has a shot and comes out for the duel. Once while locking sabers, Kylo pulls a knife and actually manages to cut Luke. Luke is both surprised stunned that Kylo pulled it off. Kylo laughs full of his minor victory, Luke stops playing around and quickly forces Kylo Wren into submission by sheer jedi force of 50 years of training. It's amazing the display of raw power at Luke's command and it's all Kylo can do to not be dissolved by Luke's force attack. But Rather than deal the death stroke, Luke turns off his lightsaber and and tells defeated Kylo that he loved Kylo even then and still believed in him. He wants him to come back. Kylo, humiliated, furious, and beaten like never before is suddenly faced with more conflict and reels back more forcefully than any blow Luke has dealt him and Luke lets him escape crying bitterly.

unbeknownst to Luke, Princess Leia was on a sabotage mission in the star destroyer that was clipped. As the reactor starts to blow, Leia manages to send one final message of hope and speaks of some future weapon the rebels have been building for years. Next movie is set up sets up the next movie. a single tear escapes down Luke's face and for a moment his hate flares and his eyes glow red.

and if you dont' like that ending, Luke could collapse after the strain of the battle and of losing leia and he does something Jedi-ish to Rey that makes her skin start arcing blue the same way his had. he gives her the benefit of his training over the last few years.
