Why is that such a common refrain here in Utah/amongst Mormons? I would have put this in the religious section, but it's not a doctrinal inquiry, it's a cultural inquiry. I have lived in four different states and Utah is really the only one where I actually hear those words.
Obviously, this being a message board you hear it waaaay more often, because it's easier to be a jerk to someone you don't have to look in the eye, but I noticed it most recently in the LES discussion (Cougs complaining that LES was not a great sports venue). What's the response? If you don't like it, don't go!
I see it in Church, in regard to ordain women or gay marriage, same thing, if you don't like it, LEAVE!
Heck, I saw it in my fantasy football league this year, regarding rules! You want a flex position, go play in your own league. (Who DOESN'T want to play with a flex? )
It's just that it is such an exclusive way to act. I like having people around that don't necessarily agree with me (obviously, I'm here). It makes life more interesting. Would I want to live in a world that was nothing but white, liberal, Mormon, Utes? Absolutely not (and I think it goes without saying that neither would most of you).
But really, don't you think that's just a silly way to act? At the very least, take the time to share why you disagree. Why even bother taking the time to say it if that's how you feel?IMHO saying, "if you don't like it, LEAVE!" is just as pathetic as saying, "Oh yeah? Well you're dumb!" Great comeback....
...Cue the clever posters who are going to respond with "IF you don't like it, LEAVE!" You are oh so clever...
