It also depends what you mean by "average", because in order to get a meaningful "average" number you have to take into account location and you have to compare to the other companies that hire those specific types of jobs in that specific area. My company is located in California and even for this one state we have 4 different salary bands based on location.

Anyway, I could nerd out on this stuff, but at the end of the day based on the comparable positions at Amazon, they're about average, but definitely not top tier like their tech peers that they compete with for employees. That's why a lot of people use Amazon to break into the tech space and to get the name on their resume, then they jump ship to one of the other tech companies that pays much better.
