We did a modified course in Payson/Benjamin, but mostly what I had planned. Instead of going out and back from church to church, we just did a loop and went through downtown Payson. I wasn't a fan of the traffic, but it was nice having lots of options for breaks/snacks. We did three loops which ended up slightly shorter than 3 out and backs would have been. He puked after the second loop, took a quick break, and finished the 3rd loop. Stud. We're pretty sure the puking is psychological because he's able to hold it back until he finishes hard workouts. One time he waited until after our 30 minute drive to puke. Not sure how to get his body to stop wanting to puke. Annoying.
We're thinking of a few possibilities for the course. One is this route in Payson/Benjamin, another is the I 80 frontage road west of the airport. And finally, someone thought of just doing the causeway back and forth a bunch of times from Clearfield to Antelope island. Super flat and a wide shoulder. Not sure how that would work, but it's an option assuming the flies won't still be biting in October.
Took us a little over 3 hours of actual riding for the 41 miles. Not very fast, but I felt for over half of it we were going too slowly and he could have gone faster.
The reason why he puked on the 2nd loop is that he bet the cycling coach $500 that we would finish the lap before he could go touch a barn and catch up with us and beat us. He started pushing it hard for a few miles and then struggled the last few (coach easily beat him with over a mile to spare).
We started talking dates. Sometime in October, either a Tuesday, Thursday, or maybe a Saturday or Sunday. Tough to get 5 schedules to align.
He was able to do 15 pushups (his word, not mine) and hang on a pullup bar for a little over 20 seconds. Improvement!
