in the largest city in the state and one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country, they definitely have some potential. And they are working hard to shed their commuter school status. I've lived here most of my life and it seems like only relatively recently have UH alums started showing their school pride out in public. But in spite of an increased on-campus student body, they still struggle to get fans in the stands. Likely because most alums probably live out in the burbs and traffic is a nightmare in the city in the early evenings and even on Saturdays.
They have a handful of big donors like Tillman Fertitta but still have a long ways to go to catch up to UT and A&M and even Baylor in terms of fan/donor interest. But if they could get a toe-hold, I would imagine that there are a lot of recruits that would love to 'stay home' to play. They seem to have found a solid coach in Kelvin Sampson that is in it for the long haul. They need to find someone similar in football in order to set a foundation on which they could build. But any success they have had in the past up and leaves for greener pastures like Art Briles, Kevin Sumlin and even Tom Herman.
