There's really one thing in the way for men's soccer

Tom Holmoe, or possibly leadership above him. Yes it would be difficult, but BYU has done far more difficult things in the past, including the IPF. At the end of the day, if TH champions this it is done in a year. The financial realities here are far better than any other athletic expansion BYU would consider.

Equal scholarships is a myth. You can add men's soccer and not have to worry about adding a women's sport.

There are 205 D1 men's soccer programs including 50 from FBS schools. I wouldn't describe that has being "few".

Title IX is not a barrier. If it is proven that there is a demand for a sport, men or women, it can be done.
