Shallow crosses can be an excellent way to convert on 3rd & Long
If you have run off routes on the front side with a backside shallow cross, that is a great way to convert and we've used it a lot over the years. Now a Comeback route that is short of the sticks makes no sense unless we're going for it on 4th Down, but there are many concepts that can be thrown short of the sticks to convert 1st Downs.
