I agree that with their pitching staff they won't suck. But with their offense...they won't be good either. 90 wins have been the magical line to be in contention to be in the playoffs. And if the M's win 88...I think they come up short by a game or two...A-G-A-I-N! I think they're more in line for 85 wins which I think puts them in 3rd (at best) in the ALW. Third and out of the playoffs again.

I think they were extremely fortunate to re-sign the big Dumper this week. But I worry that the other core players (aka - the pitchers) will tire of no run-support for the team and will look to move on to greener pastures. Then what will the team do?

All it would have taken to change everything would be to pick up one bat...a 1st or 3rd baseman or DH and it would have lifted everyone. Bring a 5 WAR player and now my 85 wins becomes a 90 win season and your 88 win becomes a 93 win season. All it would cost is $20MM or a 13% increase in payroll which would be offset in ticket sales and merchandise sales and other revenues so it may only have been a $10MM actual cost. And if you make it to playoffs...you make all that back and more in the playoff games. Yeah I know...easy to spend someone else's money but those are the realities of the way the game is.
