Last year, I predicted 90 wins and challenging for the division. I was extremely disappointed. Not just in the results but in the underachievement of many players, including Julio himself.
They finished 85-78.
That was with a lot going wrong, including injuries across the board, not least of whom were JP, Brash, and Polanco, and then several players (including some battling injuries) had career low performances, like Garver.
This year, I'm expecting essentially a repeat of around 85 wins, give or take. But they are actually in a better situation to start this season overall, in my estimation, and much better positioned this year to add more. There's also no one in the AL that is super scary, nor in the AL West.
I think the M's could challenge for the division with around 88 wins or so.
I get being disappointed. I am too. But It's April, so I'm going to make sure I leave a little room for optimism.
