I listened to it all during my workout
It’s not entirely negative towards BYU. Just mostly. Both dudes say they’re still fans, and I don’t necessarily disbelieve them.

Neither dude’s star rose at BYU as he had hoped. Both are immediately past their playing days (often a tough transition) and seem to have a bit of an axe to grind.

Everything is told through Chaz’ lense and entirely unchallenged. Doesn’t mean it’s false, but through most of it, you get the clear impression there’s a 180 degree different view of what he’s describing from the other side of the coin.

Some interesting player perspective on Utah and especially Utah State rivalries.

Chaz will say stuff like “I’ll be the first one to take responsibility or admit an other guy (ahead of him) was better” without really taking responsibility for something or admitting someone else was better.

The dudes essentially make the case (weakly) that BYU is talent rich but that talent is undeveloped. Used Zane Anderson’s NFL success as an example. I’m thinking what about Milne, Allgeier, Christensen, Freeland, 3-Star Wilson going 2nd overall, and now Batty, Etienne, etc. Seems plenty of NFL dudes developed a lot at BYU.

Pretty fair assessment of Tuiaki approach: “Keep it simple to play fast” BUT way TOO simplistic, exploited by opposing coaches and didn’t teach guys enough. Doesn’t explain either dude’s inability to rise or thrive though.

Very little concealment of his clash with who sounds like Hill but could’ve (also) been multiple other coaches. No accountability whatsoever from Chaz for any of those relationships not working out. Lots of “they just didn’t like me” stuff

Both come off as mostly decent dudes battling some disappointment over a BYU experience that didn’t meet expectations who are not removed from the pain of it having all end. They’re now in that period of figuring out the next chapter in the cold world of no more football. I extend some grace, as that sounds like a tough place to be.

I also take this interview and podcast for what it is, a bunch of cuts of 1/2 of the story from a particular POV.
