I think it’s not a bad thing at all with some proper settings in place to limit games and social media. It takes only a few minutes to set up and then you can monitor usage if any concerns arise. I think there are benefits to having one besides just parent convenience. It encourages autonomy and allows my kids to make plans with their friends. It also allows me to have conversations with them about how they will start having more responsibility as they age and slowly the restrictions will start to come down until they are ultimately in full control. Our hope as parents is that we have helped them see how to balance their lives with technology long before that point.
