I’m not entirely disagreeing with you but the purpose of some combination of stats, accolades, competing offers is to
create some sort of rationale for a players worth. Sure, it’s not a perfect science but it’s something to go off of.
If all HS athletes produced averaged results, were left off all state awards and didn’t get any scholarship offers — and were then allowed to argue their worth like you’re doing with Ryder Burton then nearly every HS football player makes the criteria and checks the same boxes. But since 99.999% of college athletes bring something to the table like exceptional production, all state awards, competing offers etc… it provides demonstrable proof of the value of the player.
I’m just saying that the arguments you’re using to say that Burton was and is worthy of D1 consideration could be used for any other HS athlete in the same boat but 99.999% of these HS athletes will never be afforded the same luxury as Burton.
