Talent doesn’t always lead to success on the playing field
For instance, Jake Heaps undoubtedly had talent. It just didn’t translate well on a college football field.

I think that’s what he is trying to say. There’s something of value there. Whether a coach can help him utilize it and continue to improve is the question.

Any player offered by a school has some potential that the coaches see in them. It’s not always fully developed though.

He wouldn’t be the first “talented” kid to have a scholarship and never see the field in meaningful moments on a football field.
