They appeal to (and could get sympathy from) a very narrow subset of non-Mormons (predominantly conservatives who support “big tent” Christianity); otherwise, they hold beliefs that are anathema.
Are they lacking in political power? No, they’re actually able to influence political processes to a noteworthy degree (Prop 8; Utah politics).
Are they poor? No, actually they’re extremely wealthy and have taken some black eyes recently about how they have accounted for their money.
Are they oppressed? Not currently. They were, for a few years in Ohio and Illinois, but that was a long time ago and they’ve since spent 150 years in geographic isolation and relative security.
Doesn’t look like a winner in the victimhood Olympics to me…
