You'd get a few penalties and apologies out of it; but if you identify it as a pain point, you'll also get a lot more of it.
I'm also not sure that it benefits BYU to draw attention to "hate" anything. BYU and the church are in a much better place w/r/t race relations than they were in the 70s, but LGBT stuff continues to heat up. There are plenty across the country who would see BYU as a crybully.
I, for one, wouldn't want to start a war about "hate" that could easily end with schools saying "Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander; we won't affiliate with/play against schools that have hateful policies or espouse hateful beliefs."
It's good enough in my book to be gracious in accepting apologies when they are offered.
