...we had 3 different QB's start games. ZW and Jaren Hall had similar abilities but ZW was a better thrower and Jaren a better runner (and less experienced). Gameplanning wasn't too difficult for those 2.

The QB3 was Baylor Romney who was more of a game manager, decent enough passer and could get a few yards on the ground but Arod had to craft a very different offense for him. His first start vs Boise St was a masterpiece of play calling and scheme design.

I think what Arod "wants" to do with Jake (similar to what we did with ZW and Jaren) works between the 20's but when we get in the red zone (or as we saw when we're stuck inside our own 20 vs Utah) and teams tend to bring more pressure, Jake struggles to make the easy throws that would beat the pressure. Some of it is mechanics causing his inaccuracy, some of it is just him not throwing a very catchable ball (understanding not to fire a 5 yd bullet at or behind the head or shoulder of the intended receiver). He also just lacks the subtlety we saw with ZW and Jaren who were accurate enough that they could throw receivers open when facing tight coverage. There is something to it that it's on him to do a better job of tailoring the offense to fit the guy he has. I think he needs to simplify and dial back things a lot like he did for Baylor Romney. Jake needs to think less out there and have easier decisions to make.
