No, SMU is not an elite win. There isn’t a single metric showing that they are elite. They are a good win, but not elite.

Again, there are 8 spots between Ohio State and BYU’s strength of schedule. Obviously beating Baylor on the road is more impressive than beating Purdue. But you also just compared BYU’s third hardest game with Ohio State’s easiest game. You know that’s not a genuine comparison.

We could go through every single game if we wanted to. But we don’t have to because we have the SOS rankings. Turns out, BYU and Ohio State are really similar. Some have Ohio State higher, some have BYU higher. It’s not like we’re top 10 and they’re 90.

So once we establish that BYU and Ohio State has a similar record, we can look at other rankings and and who is more impressive in the games they’ve played.

Ohio State is #3 in Sagarin. BYU is #22. BYU has really struggled against bad teams and lost against bad teams. Ohio State hasn’t.
