Simply saying people throw the fade on the goal line all the time isn't even close to a full assessment of last night's play call. There's down, distance, and personnel matchups plus associated risk to consider.

We threw a lob pass to a tight end that hasn't caught one of those all year, has single digit catches all season, and normally blocks, via a QB that just threw the same play directly to the opposing DB one week ago. And we did it on first down, with plenty of time, and 2 TO's remaining. While the run game had been working.

This wasn't Beck to Harline--a TE who had proven he could beat anyone 1 vs. 1 with a QB who could put that particular pass on a dime. Or an NFL QB to an NFL WR with a reach advantage. It was an awful play call for our team at that time. The resulting awful throw was a built in risk, which is a primary reason why it was such a bad decision to take that risk at all. Why do it?
