talent is generally no longer interested in considering BYU.
Despite Bronco’s flaws and the roadblocks he faced he was always in competition for highly rated LDS QB talent whether those players panned out or not is a different discussion.
Bronco had to overcome being in the MWC. He had to deal with the Honor code when it was actually enforced e.g. no long hair, no earrings, no beards etc… he never had a P4 conference to leverage while at BYU and yet he landed multiple 4 star LDS or high 3 star LDS QBs. Kalani doesn’t have any of these things in his way and the program has more funds than ever before.
BYU should be extremely attractive to not just LDS QBs but the roughly number 15 to roughly 65 ish rated QBs nationwide but it’s just not happening.
Sure, recruiting is a crapshoot and largely luck in terms of who pans out and who doesn’t but the probability of success is higher with higher rated kids as a general rule. I hope we begin to see QB recruiting improve back to the days of old.
