So on October 17th I will be going under the robotic knife to remove about 12 inches of my colon. So I guess I will leave the hospital with a semi colon;😂😂😂😂
I'm getting really positive vibes from my surgeon. He explained everything clearly and answered all of my questions. Obviously there needs to be a pathology performed on the growth/tumor to better understand what may be happening inside by body. Yes there is a chance I might need a round or two of chemo depending on what they find in the lymph nodes they will take along with the tumor. However if they check out good, then no chemo at all (praying that's the result)
I'll be in the hospital for about a week assuming no infections and the colon is healing per expectations. Best scenario the colon attaches together and heals quickly (Dr explained it like how a sore inside your mouth heals). Poor scenario, Colon isn't attaching/healing and has to be reattached in another surgery 8-10 months down the road. In the meantime I'd be wearing a colostomy bag (no bueno)
I won't be able to be as active as I wish off the bat. Need to be careful a week after I leave the hospital. The Dr will progressively allow me more physical activity as time goes on so at about six weeks, I'll be able to work out as hard as I want.
I'll be IV fed directly after surgery which means no ingesting anything. During the week in the hospital they will attempt to work me up to soft food like pudding. Over the next few weeks after leaving the hospital I need to be aware of avoiding rough foods, so lots of smoothies to blend me vegetables.
This will be.... Not sure how to describe this pending experience. But I'm grateful regardless of the support and sense of family I've felt her as my wife and I have gone through this.
