collapses (2017, 2022, 2023), which is by far the most worrying hallmark of KS' mediocre tenure at HC. Good HCs don't show that kind of pattern. Yes, some decent HCs do not fill a strong coaching role on one side of the ball, just a lot of the really good HCs do like Harbaugh, Day, Bellichick, Reid, Carroll, Whittingham (yes), Shanahan, et al. I'd be fine with a LaVell type of CEO HC if the collapses, average recruiting, etc. were not there, too.
I also get that Sitake is a nice guy that the players like and he represents the values of the university well. Problem is, nice guy coaches tend to carry underperforming coaches too long--I think you can think of a couple of those instances. When getting paid $3m per annum at one of the largest private universities in the America, the HC should be much more than that.
