I’ve had new cars, used cars, luxury brands, and regular brands. Luxury cars always had the most problems and were by far the most expensive purchase. Toyotas held up the best as did full size GM trucks and SUVs. 2000-2015 have been peak reliability from what I’ve owned.

I still have a 2000 4Runner that’s required nothing aside from maintenance and has never let me down. I’ve had more expensive and newer vehicles that were a headache from day one.

Safety has gotten better as time has gone on, but these improvements are pretty standard across the industry and regulated by the government, so you’re going to see it across the price band.
